Hunter Huss IB Readings

We go to any major retailer, and the salesman tries to sell us “protection plans” that are in reality mostly worthless and only serve as revenue streams for the retailer. We question our cell phone bill and the salesman says the charges were for services that were not part of the data plan and when questioned replies that it is company policy not to disclose to customers that these “services” are really hidden charges. We watch a politician’s speech and know from the start that a large percentage of what he or she is saying is not true but it only what people want to hear. We see and hear countless advertisements that are many times nothing but baseless falsehoods. Cheating and lying has become almost the norm in every aspect of our lives; in schools, in sports, in courtrooms, in businesses, in relationships…the list goes on and on.

What causes this? Is this really the kind of world we want to live in? How do we solve it? We have grown to automatically assume most things are lies and that is not the normal state of human nature. Whatever happened to honor and integrity?

How do we both learn honesty and change our perspective to reward those who are honest? Or can we?
