Hunter Huss IB Readings

In studying American history, we always run up against racism. Whether it’s slavery, immigration, Jim Crow laws, treatment of Native Americans, or the Civil Rights movment to include a few, it sometimes seems as if you can’t understand the US without looking at race. Interestingly, biologists agree that the whole concept of race does not exist in nature, it is purely a human invention.

Is there such a thing as “white privelege?” Read the posted articles and reflect on that, using evidence (and google your own results in addition to these two articles should you be so inclined. If it does exist, what can be done to fight it? Or, do we even need to fight it – is it just “how things are?” What will you someday tell your kids about race?
