Hunter Huss IB Readings

You have encountered Thomas Jefferson and his legacy throughout your educational career. You have learned about Jefferson as the 3rd president, the author of the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, an inventor, artist, philosopher, leader of the Democratic-Republicans, enemy of Federalists Alexander Hamilton and John Adams, founder of both the Library of Congress and the University of Virginia, among other accomplishments. However, Jefferson also left the legacy of being a slave-owner (which was not only common among men of his social class duing the 18th century but also expected). Your task this week is to read some of the articles atHTTP://WWW.PBS.ORG/WGBH/PAGES/FRONTLINE/SHOWS/JEFFERSON/ENIGMA/(especially “Our Jefferson,” “Blacks and the Founding Fathers,” and at least two of the articles in the section “Jeffersonian Legacies.”You will post your comments, using EXAMPLES FROM THE ARTICLES, on how you think Jefferson should be judged by history. In order to receive a passing grade, you must cite specific examples from the articles and other readings, you must contribute to the discussion and not just say “I agree,” and you must reply in a timely manner before midnight on February 24, 2014.
